All the big fuse bead systems come in three sizes. The math is the same for every brand — only the bead width changes:
- Midi (5 mm) — the standard size for Hama and Perler. One 29 x 29 pegboard = 14.5 x 14.5 cm.
- Mini (2.6 mm) — for detailed, small pieces. Roughly half the size, four times the fiddliness.
- Maxi (10 mm) — chunky beads for small children. Double the midi size.
The Formula
Fuse bead math is delightfully simple, because beads sit on a fixed grid:
Finished size in cm = beads x bead width in mm / 10
Pegboards needed = width in beads / 29, rounded up (same for height)
Worked Example
You want to make a portrait that is 58 beads wide and 87 beads tall in midi beads:
- Pegboards: (58 / 29) x (87 / 29) = 2 x 3 = 6 boards
- Finished size: 58 x 0.5 = 29 cm wide, 87 x 0.5 = 43.5 cm tall
- Beads: at most 58 x 87 = 5,046 — the exact count per color comes from your pattern.
