Make a needlepoint pattern from a photoThe formula
Needlepoint math is simple because tent stitches sit on a fixed grid:
Finished size in inches = stitches / mesh count
Finished size in cm = stitches / mesh count x 2.54
Worked example
You want to stitch a 130 x 104 stitch design on 13 mesh canvas:
- Width: 130 / 13 = 10 inches (25.4 cm)
- Height: 104 / 13 = 8 inches (20.3 cm)
- Stitches: 130 x 104 = 13,520 — the exact count per color comes from your chart.
- Canvas to cut: about 15 x 13 inches once you add 2-3 inch margins for blocking.
