How to add colour changes and stripes to amigurumi

Use the Colour workspace to plan stripes before you crochet. Select a component, choose the rounds to paint, then apply a yarn colour. The model shows the result and Pattern lists the colour changes.

Colour a whole piece

1. Open a creation and choose Colour.
2. Select its body, head or another component in the model or component list. On a phone, expand Choose component if the list is collapsed.
3. Choose Whole piece, then select a swatch.

Whole-piece painting replaces existing stripes on that component. Use Undo if you meant to colour only a few rounds. For a colour outside the palette, expand Custom colour, choose it, then press Apply custom colour.

Make a stripe across rounds 8–11

Select the bear’s body and choose Rounds. Click round 8, then Shift-click round 11. You can also drag across numbered round buttons or enter 8 and 11 in the From round and To round fields; the fields are convenient on a phone.

Check that the selection reads Rounds 8–11. Choose the coral swatch. Those four rounds change together, while rounds before and after the selection keep their existing colours. The selected rounds retain their yarn colour on the model while the other rounds on that component dim.

Repeat with another range for a second stripe. Applying each colour is an undoable edit. Merely changing the selected range does not alter the design.

Use different colours on linked arms or ears

Linked pairs change together. To colour one arm differently, return to Build and choose Unlink the pair, then select that arm in Colour. Check both pieces before exporting.

For a scarf, the same controls say Rows, because the scarf is worked flat. Safety-eye markers offer a whole-piece colour rather than crochet rounds.

Check the written instructions

Open Pattern and find the component you painted. Look for the colour changes at the start and end of each stripe. Tapping a pattern round highlights it on the model as a reading aid. Return to Colour to change it.

The editor plans where colours change. Your crochet technique still controls how the transition looks in continuous rounds. Test the transition with your yarn if a clean stripe boundary matters to the design.

Can I paint individual stitches?

Not yet. The current workspace paints a whole piece or complete rounds/rows. It does not paint one stitch, a face motif or a small patch within a round. Keep those details in your embroidery notes for now.

If you change a component’s shape or length after colouring, check its round ranges again. A stripe attached to a round number may sit differently on the resized shape.
